Android Integration[edit]
Wilink8 drivers are being developed as part of the Linux kernel as part of the Linux mac80211 drivers.
Android releases which are based on mainline Linux (especially using v4.1 and up) may enable the in-tree wl18xx drivers that are part of the kernel.
For other/older Linux based releases there are also methods assisting with extracting the wl18xx latest drivers and building them with older kernel. Those type of integrations are using the "backports" method and are described here
