I have succesfully setup the target file system on the RedHat machine.

Is it possible to setup the target file system on the Ubuntu running on a virtual machine (VMware Player) ?

The only problem for me to setup the target file system on the Ubuntu running on VMware Player is how to make the IP for this virtual machine visible in lab network.

It turned out to be easy. Just to configure both AMnet1 and VMnet8 adapter to turn on the VMware Bridge Protocol.

And remember to change the seeting for Network Adapter from default "NAT" to "Bridged".

I had a lot of problems with this after I booted over TFTP then mounted a filesystem over NFS. Once it got to a login prompt, the whole thing seemed to lock up. The problem eventually turned out to be Minicom. It was getting confused when Linux took over the serial port from uboot. This appears to be a known problem with minicom and uboot. The uboot manual recommends that you not use minicom and use Kermit instead - and supplies instructions on how to configure Minicom. Once I replaced Minicom with Kermit, the problem disappeared. I'd recommend the instructions above be changed to remove the Minicom references.
