Getting Started with StellarisWare Workshop
Version 2.01 January 2011
Now updated to Code Composer 5.1!
Introduction[edit]
The Getting Started with StellarisWare and ARM Cortex-M3 Workshop is free, on-line, in-depth introduction into the basics of working with the Cortex-M3 and StellarisWare including:
- An introduction to Cortex-M3 and Stellaris peripherals
- An overview of Code Composer Studio 5.1
- An introduction to StellarisWare, initialization and GPIO
- Working with interrupts and the timer
- Use of the ADC10 analog-to-digital converter
- Using the PWM module
- Working with the graphics library
- Using the Ethernet peripheral
Each of these sections includes an in-depth lab that will step you through the usage, programming and testing of the peripherals(s) covered.
Running The Labs[edit]
To run the labs, you will need the following:
- A Windows XP or later computer with 1G or more free hard drive space
- The EKS-LM3S8962 evaluation board available from the TI eStore [1] and other locations
- The latest production DVD image of Code Composer Studio 5.1+ [2]. You will need a my.TI account to download this file. You should note that the free, code size limited version of CCS will not work with Stellaris devices. CCS will operate with full functionality for free while connected to a Stellaris evaluation board. Those boards can also operate as an emulator interface for your target system, but this function requires a licensed version of CCS. Install CCS with at least ARM/Stellaris support. Using the web installer will minimize your download size.
- StellarisWare[3] (SW-LM3S) You will need a my.TI account to download this file. Install StellarisWare in the default folder.
- LM Flash Programmer (LMFLASHPROGRAMMER) [4] You will need a my.TI account to download this file.
- To properly display the web pages served up by the QuickStart application you should also have the latest version of the Java Runtime Engine installed on your PC. You can find it here [5]
- In section 7, “Graphic Library” we’ll need a photo editing tool capable of working with PNM format files. GIMP can do this. Download and install GIMP from here [6]
- Windows7 no longer has HyperTerminal. To regain that capability, download and “install” TeraTerm [7] or another terminal program of your choice.
There are many helpful documents that you should download, but at a minimum you should have the following documents at your fingertips.
