Installing Code Composer Studio


Configuring the installation[edit]

1. Double-click on the executable installer <setup_CCS_4.x.x.xxxxx> or <setup_CCS_MC_Core_4.x.xxxxx>(the x represents the software version and may vary)

Important! Administrative privileges are required for installation
If installing on Windows Vista or Windows 7 and User Access Control (UAC) is running, at this point UAC will ask for permission to run this installer.

The CCSv4 installer will recommend to disable UAC:

Depending on the windows version, If the UAC is not disabled there may be some warning messages like the one below.

2. The welcome screen is shown below. Click Next

3. The installer will display the license agreement. It has to be accepted before moving to the next step.

4. Next step is to select the desired installation location:

If using 64-bit versions of Windows, the default installation location will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments
Tip: Unless running in Vista or Windows 7, it is highly recommended to install CCSv4 in the default directory, as updates to its components (DSP/BIOS, Code Generation Tools, RTSC, etc.) can be automatically picked when installed

The warning below will be shown when installing in Windows Vista. This can be ignored unless CCSv4 will be used by a user with regular (non-administrator) permissions or the directory has read/write permissions to all users.

5. Next step is to select the desired installation Edition:

  1. Platinum Edition enables the installation for all devices
  2. Microcontroller Edition enables only the MSP430, C2000, Cortex M3 and Cortex R4 devices.
  3. Scripting Tools installs a minimal set of tools that enable scripted code load and debug.
  4. Custom enables the configuration of each desired device. In practice it is equivalent of installing the Platinum Edition


6. The next screen shows the device families to be installed

Tip: For performance improvement, it is advisable to install only the device families needed.
Tip: In order to debug System-on-a-chip devices like DaVinci or OMAP, install both ARM and C6000 DSPs device families

7. As the last step, the component install screen is shown. This screen changes depending on the Edition chosen.

Warning for MSP430 users: Please note that the MSP430 Parallel FET Debugger is not installed by default.

8. Clicking next shows a summary of the installation options chosen.

Installation starts[edit]

9. During installation the main installer screen below will be shown. Sometimes it may show (Not Responding), but this is normal as it waits until each component installer finishes its operation.

10. During the installation some windows may pop up asking for permissions to install the emulation device drivers. You can safely click on Install

11. After a while the installer finishes its job and Code Composer Studio is ready to be launched.
